Kentucky basketball: Mark Pope on beating undefeated Florida Gators
Kentucky Wildcats basketball coach Mark Pope discusses how his team battled to hand the Florida Gators their first loss of the season.
Kentucky basketball goes for a 2-0 start in SEC play tonight. To achieve that, UK will have to do something no team has done this season: beat Georgia at Stegeman Coliseum.
The Bulldogs are 9-0 at home since the 2024-25 campaign started. They’ve won 11 straight games at Stegeman dating back to last season; it’s tied for the sixth-longest home winning streak in program history.
The Wildcats, who are No. 7 in the newest USA TODAY Coaches Poll and No. 6 in the latest AP Top 25 rankings, have played only one road game this season. It wasn’t a successful trek for first-year UK coach Mark Pope and his team, as they lost, 70-66, to Clemson at Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson, South Carolina, last month.
One positive for the Wildcats (12-2, 1-0 SEC): They’ve never had problems beating the Bulldogs (12-2, 0-1) away from home.
Kentucky is 44-19 versus UGA in matchups in Athens, Georgia. Even so, the Wildcats have lost their last two trips to Stegeman, falling by seven points in 2023 (75-68) and one point in 2021 (63-62).
UK has a dominant advantage in the all-time series with Georgia, leading 132-28.
Here’s what you need to know to follow today’s game from home:
UK and Georgia are slated to tip off at 7 p.m. today at Stegeman Coliseum.
Betting odds: Kentucky is a 2-point road favorite (-112) on DraftKings, which set the over/under at 155 points (-108). The money line odds are Kentucky -135, Georgia +114.
The contest between the Wildcats and Bulldogs will air on SEC Network. John Schriffen (play-by-play) and Richard Hendrix (analyst) will have the call.
