Kentucky basketball: Mark Pope praises team, fans after win vs Brown
Kentucky Wildcats basketball coach Mark Pope praised fans and his team’s efforts in their win against Brown on New Year’s Eve at Rupp Arena.
LEXINGTON — Kentucky basketball has had its way in the series with Florida recently. The Wildcats have won five of the past six meetings and 10 of the last 12 dating back to the 2018-19 season.
But the Gators tasted victory the last time the two teams squared off, earning a 94-91 victory in overtime at Rupp Arena on Jan. 31.
That was the final time John Calipari faced Florida as UK’s coach. During his 15-season reign in Lexington, Calipari was 25-10 against the Gators.
Calipari’s successor, Mark Pope hopes to emulate that success against Florida. He’ll have his first crack at the Gators today. UK welcomes Florida to Rupp Arena in the SEC opener for both squads.
It also will be a tussle of ranked teams: The undefeated Gators (13-0) are No. 5 in the USA TODAY Coaches poll and No. 6 in the Associated Press top 25; the Wildcats (11-2) slot in at No. 10 in the AP poll and No. 11 in the coaches’ rankings.
Here’s what you need to know to follow today’s game from home:
UK and Florida are slated to tip off at 11 a.m. today at Rupp Arena.
Betting odds: Kentucky is a 2 ½-point favorite (-112) on DraftKings, which set the over/under at 164 ½ points (-110). The money line odds are Kentucky -155, Florida +130.
