A couple abandoned their life in the UK to live in Bulgaria in a house they had never seen before – and they haven’t looked back.
Lewis and Jordan were fed up of their life in Bournemouth and were dreaming of a better life. The couple realised that just a three hour plane ride away was their ultimate living situation waiting for them; they were able to get a big home and plenty of land for £7,000.
The couple, who have become a viral sensation after sharing their experience online, claim that they never saw what their Bulgarian home looked like until they drove up the driveway. “I think we got pretty lucky,” Lewis said on TikTok.
Lewis took to TikTok and said: “About a year and a half ago, we drove up this driveway after a £1,821 mile journey because we decided it would be a good idea to purchase a house for £7,000 in Bulgaria. And we bought this house on the internet for £7,000 without even looking at it.”
Lewis, who shares two children with his partner, added: “In 2022 we had a dream of owning our own home and having farmland to raise lifestock and to grow our own produce, however with an acre plot of land ranging anywhere from £300,000 to one million in the UK, this dream soon became pretty unrealistic.”
Plus, at the time the pair were not able to quality for a mortgage. “So instead of giving up on our dreams, we decided to look elsewhere.”

They now live in a countryside cottage which has a huge garden space. In the main house there are three bedrooms, a bathroom, a lounge, a kitchen. Lewis also noted that included in the purchase of the house was an annex in the garden, as well as a one “unbelievably huge” barn. The annex has three rooms – which are home to a craft room, workshop and a shower room.
On YouTube, he added: “We could never afford this much land in England.”
The couple sold the majority of their belongings, packed everything into a caravan and moved to Bulgaria with their children Leo and Fae. They admitted that leaving home was scary but it was also exciting. The family signed up for a five year residency at the home, which can be renewed if they wish to do so, Lewis claimed.
Commenting on the family’s TikTok page @frombournemouth2bulgaria, where the family share updates on their adventure, thousands of people have commented on their decision to flee their Bournemouth life.
One individual who has also moved to Bulgaria said: “Did the same 5 years ago, 11 roomed house 1000 square metre garden, water well. Best move ever. It had been renovated a little. Price of a car in UK.”
“Your garden is endless,” observed another. Another wrote: “This is amazing! I would love to do something like this once my little ones are a bit older.”
“This is exactly what I want to do, well done for doing it,” agreed one other. Another shared: ” I am an Romanian and lived in the Uk for about 5 years. Left the Uk 3 years ago, came back home opened a car repair shop – best decision I have made ever.”
One other noted: “It’s a nice idea. But maybe for when I’m like 70.”
