Delivered in partnership with the Beacon Counselling Trust, the sessions give people the opportunity to discuss any concerns they may have about their own, or someone else’s gambling.
Beacon Counselling Trust is a north-west based education, treatment and support charity, which employs fully qualified therapists to support individuals.
They offer free treatment and support to those affected by gambling-related harm including partners, family members and friends.
Gambling can come in many different forms.
This includes lotteries, instant lotteries, number games, sports betting, horse betting, poker and other card games, casino table games bingo, and electronic gaming machines.
Those who think they may have a gambling problem, or want to support somebody with a gambling addiction, can drop by the Living Well Hub, Horsemarket Street, every first Monday of the month, from 10 am – 12 pm for help, support, referrals and treatment.
James Callaway, engagement lead of north west England, for Beacon Counselling trust, said: “Beacon Counselling Trust are delighted to be supporting Warrington Council’s ‘gambling harms’ monthly drop ins at the Living Well Hub.
“Through offering an in-person presence in Warrington we are hoping our practitioner will be able to engage with members of the community who may not have previously had the opportunity to come forward and speak about any harms they are experiencing from gambling, whether they have been caused through their own, or somebody else’s gambling.
“This will allow members of the community to have a seamless pathway into our free and confidential treatment and support offer should it be required.”
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, cabinet member for health, wellbeing and social care, said: “Gambling can have a negative impact on not only the people who gamble, but friends and family of a gambler too.
“These sessions will provide a safe and confidential space for residents to discuss issues they may be facing and get advice and further help if needed from a professional.”
