The Indian batter had recently announced his retirement from T20 internationals along with Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja after helping the Indian team lift their second T20 world title.
While Kohli had a sub-par performance through the tournament in the USA and the West Indies, he managed to produce a match-winning knock in the big finale against South Africa where he scored 76 in 59 balls to help India secure a big enough target and take the win later on by 7 runs.
India’s next assignment will be their white-ball tour of Sri Lanka which is set to begin on July 27. The trip will mark the start of a new era with Gautam Gambhir beginning his stint as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team.
However, whether Kohli will make himself available for the three-match ODI series is yet to be confirmed. Reports have suggested that Rohit, the Indian skipper could be included in the 50-over squad.
