Using data from the Met Office over the last decade, including total rainfall, total sunshine duration, mean daily maximum temperature and mean daily mini temperature data, Betfair Live Casino dubbed Folkestone among one of the UK’s “sunniest” spots – perfect for a staycation.
The town came third in the ranking based on data since 2014, losing out only to Hastings and Eastbourne.
According to the data, it is estimated that Folkestone enjoyed 18,804.38 hours of sunshine across the last 10 years. Of course, this isn’t a guarantee for how summer will look in the town this year.
This also doesn’t necessarily mean that Folkestone is the hottest part of the UK, as the sunshine counted is for the entire year, including sunny days during the winter months.
However, based on the Met Office‘s UK climate averages from Folkestone’s local weather station which reveals data collected between 1991 and 2020, June is the sunniest month.
The seaside town received 243.98 hours of sunshine in June, on average, based on the time period analysed. But, while June may be the sunniest, August was found to be the hottest month.
The average temperature in August, based on the data, sits at 21.49C.
Earlier this year, the Sunday Times commended Folkestone on its quirky and artistic atmosphere, which won it the title of “best place to live in the southeast”.
Folkestone has a proud Creative Quarter home to galleries, studios independent boutiques, bars, cafés and restaurants all linked by cobbled streets. Colourful shopfronts line the high street and it has been described by locals as “a really vibrant, buzzy place to be at the moment”.
During the summer, locals and those from out of town also flock to its lovely beaches. Sunny Sands, located in the heart of Folkestone Harbour, is the area’s main beach and is a sandy stretch which has waters ideal for swimming.
