The experts analysed Tripadvisor data across more than 1,000 local destinations containing the phrase “hidden gem” and found that in Paris, Musee Nissim de Camondo ranked the most favoured among lesser-known locations.
Despite its low-key status, it remains largely crowd-free according to those who have ventured into the incredible mansion.
The historic house prompted a glowing review from one visitor who wrote: “A beautiful mansion, now a museum with quite a history background. It is next to the lovely Parc Monceau and well worth your visit. The day I was there there were only three other people – such a nice experience after so many lovely but crowded museums.”
A second person agreed: “What an unexpected gem!! The house and furnishings are in unbelievably great condition. The house is completely furnished and the audio guide walks you through the rooms and the family’s story really well. Having visited many mansions throughout the world this one was really special”.
A third crowd-dodging tourist remarked: “One of the most important sights on my recent trip was my visit to the Musée Nissim de Camondo. I was there 10 minutes before its opening (my ticket was booked for 10am) and it was the best possible time I could have wished for: the gorgeous mansion was all mine for at least 30 minutes.”
The museum, which has a 4.7-star rating on Google with 1.7K reviews, is located in the Hôtel Moïse de Camondo at 63, rue de Monceau, on the edge of Parc Monceau in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France.
Those hoping to reach it by public transport can take the Paris Métro to the following stops – Villiers and Monceau on Line 2.
Paris is home to plenty of other hidden spots including specialty museums and art museums. The travel experts revealed that second to Musee Nissim de Camondo was Musee Marmottan Monet.
Nestled in the heart of the city, the Musée Marmottan Monet stands as a true hidden gem, showcasing an impressive collection of more than 300 masterpieces by the legendary Claude Monet.
It’s an obvious must-visit for art enthusiasts but also one of the city’s best-kept secrets. For those eager to uncover more of Paris’ lesser-known treasures, the Musée Jacquemart-André offers a journey through art and history.
Nature lovers can head to the Coulee Verte René-Dumont gardens which provide a serene escape, and the Petit Palais art gallery which dazzles with its elegant architecture and exhibits.
