THE UK’s biggest and busiest airport has revealed new multi-million upgrades in the next two years.
London Heathrow Airport has confirmed that the £2.3billion renovation will take place until 2026.
Around £1.05billion will be spent in 2025 on the airport’s infrastructure.
And the following year, another £1.29billion will be spent across the airport.
The plans will will “enhance capabilities across all terminals” to make them function better.
This includes improved baggage deliveries and additional work to improve departure and arrival times.
Runways will also be resurfaced while upgraded security scanners will be installed.
Around 140 of the scanners will be installed ahead of the rules to scrap the current 100ml liquid rules, which has currently been paused by the UK government.
London Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye said: “Heathrow is the UK’s gateway to the world, and ultimately, the country’s gateway to growth.
“Today’s announcement confirms that we will continue to invest more than £1bn of private sector cash each year into the airport to deliver facilities our airlines and passengers want, while boosting the UK economy and creating opportunities for businesses up and down the country.”
Earlier this summer, six new flight routes launched from Heathrow Airport.
British Airways relaunched flights to Kos – the first time since 2022 – as well as its first flights to Izmir from Heathrow since 2019.
The flag carrier also added more flights to Abu Dhabi, while Virgin Atlantic launched Heathrow flights to Bangalore.
And Vueling launched flights from the UK airport to both Paris and Barcelona.

And it’s not just London Heathrow Airport undergoing a huge renovation.
Bristol Airport is spending £400million over the next five years, with a much larger terminal and additional restaurants being built.
The airport’s CEO Dave Lees said the upgrades will mean an “improved journey” for passengers.
