The South West of England is often praised as home to the UK’s most beautiful beaches, with Cornwall, Devon, and Dorset attracting holidaymakers seeking sun-soaked coastal stays.
However, a new trend is emerging as more and more staycationers are swapping the busy roads to Land’s End for the quieter shores of Norfolk.
One destination, in particular, has gained attention for its peaceful charm and hidden coastal beauty away from large crowds.
Sheringham, a pretty little town located just 28 miles north of Norwich, has become a serene retreat within the protected expanse of the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is known for its rich wildlife and scenic walking trails.
Sheringham’s beach, renowned for its natural beauty, spans for miles at low tide, with rock pools and chalk beds often visible – and it holds the prestigious Blue Flag award.
The award is a mark of excellence for beaches that meet the highest environmental standards set by the Foundation for Environmental Education.
This means visitors can enjoy an immaculate stretch of sand, surrounded by breathtaking coastal views and a wealth of local wildlife, making it a perfect spot for those seeking both tranquillity and nature’s splendour.
In fact, it has been lauded by Tripadvisor reviewers over the years for its expansive size and cleanliness.
LCHouse recounted: “During the summer holidays in the 1970s I would help with the ponies along the Esplanade by the Burlington Hotel.
“Many a happy summer holiday spent here. Not much has changed, it’s busier, but still has charm and the people are very friendly, the beaches extremely clean, Ye Olde Tea Rooms, The Crown, Daves Restaurant are certainly places to visit if you are in Sheringham.”
All_In_clusiveGBGB added: “The town is your typical sea-side town with good sandy beaches (when the tide’s not fully in), your usual ‘tat’ shops, nice coffee bars and fish and chips – fresh, not like your usual inland town rubbish!!
“Good golf if you’re into that, perfect views and generally clean and tidy area.”
Aside from its spectacular beach, Sheringham has an impressive variety of fabulous independent shops and cultural landmarks to explore; from antiques and vintage stores, to art galleries like Sanders and Christie, and more.
Kerry Worrall from Greater Anglia said the operator hoped to have services moving again soon."We have just heard that power has been restored to the Hackney Dow
