The North East is home to a wealth of stunning beaches and coastal attractions. One such gem, just an hour’s drive from central Newcastle, has been crowned the UK’s best seaside town for an impressive four consecutive years.
The North Sea coast never fails to impress on screen, whether it’s featuring in the popular ITV drama Vera, various cooking series, or property shows like Location, Location, Location and Love It or List It.
Not to mention, North Tyneside and Northumberland have also had their share of Hollywood glamour, with Harrison Ford exploring the area while filming the latest Indiana Jones movie, Dial of Destiny, in 2021.
Interestingly, it’s the very location where Harrison and his team resided during that summer which has consistently topped national rankings.
Enter Bamburgh, a village that has been recognised as the best seaside town by consumer champions Which?every year since 2021.
These rankings are based on surveys of its members, with last year’s results determined by over 5,000 votes. Bamburgh managed to outshine competitors from across the country, including another contender from the North East, reports Chronicle Live.
Bamburgh clinched the top spot with a ‘destination score’ of 86% and a five-star rating for its beach.
The coastal gem is a year-round favourite among Northumberland locals and city dwellers seeking a breath of fresh sea air, and it has also drawn a number of celebrity visitors in recent times.
Harrison Ford and his Indiana Jones co-stars were spotted enjoying a leisurely walk during a filming break at Bamburgh Castle.
Last year, Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts shared snaps from her visit on Instagram as she and her bandmates journeyed from Newcastle to Glasgow for their sold-out arena tour, making a pit stop in Bamburgh.
Recently, The Potted Lobster in Bamburgh secured a spot on a list of the UK’s most romantic food and drink destinations. The town also features on the UK’s best town list for the past year alongside Tynemouth.
Ranked fourth in the Which? listings, trailing St Andrews and Portmeirion, Tynemouth was crowned the ‘coolest seaside town in the UK’ by Time Out magazine last year.
The UK boasts several unique areas that benefit from balmy microclimates, and luckily for Brits, it is entirely possible to get a taste of the Caribbean without
