The UK weather is unpredictable regardless of the time of year, and while one week might offer blistering sunshine, the rain can be soon to follow. However, according to new research, one city has experienced more downpours than any other city in the nation over the last 12 years.

By analysing 12 years’ worth of historical data from World Weather Online, the study conducted by Casino Online tried to determine how likely certain destinations would be to experience yet more showering this summer.

Based on their research, they found that Glasgow was the wettest city over the last 12 years.

The largest city in Scotland is the second most popular tourist city in Scotland for overseas visitors and the sixth most popular in the entire UK, according to Statista.

Glasgow was only just beaten in the research by the metropolitan borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire.

While the research can not predict the weather this year, in May the Met Office predicted there could be as many as 50 rainy days in the UK this summer.

Last year there were 40 days of rain between June and the end of August, and in 1912, the bleakest summer on record in the UK, there were 55 rainy days.

The research showed that, over the last 12 years, Glasgow experienced an average of 33 days of rainfall each summer.

According to Met Office Data, in June, Glasgow experienced an average of 80.78mm of rainfall in June based on data collected between 1991 and 2020. The data also showed an average of 91.94mm in July and 107.06mm in August.

When it comes to sunshine, according to the Met Office data, July is the sunniest month. It’s also the warmest month, with average maximum highs sitting at 19.3C.

In June 2023, the Met Office noted that temperatures were above average in all areas of the UK with “parts of western Scotland having mean maximum temperatures as much as 4C above average”.

Threave in Dumfries and Galloway reached 30.7C on June 12, the highest temperature of 2023 in Scotland.

However, 2023 also saw lots of rain across all of Scotland as Atlantic storms lashed. By comparison, one of England’s sunniest destinations was recently named based on data collected over the last 10 years, some eight-and-a-half hours away in Eastbourne.
