A new study has shown that the UK’s bus, coach and minibus market has recorded a second year of consecutive growth, with the market seeing its best performance since 2008.
The figures, published in the latest report from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), saw an increase of 70.1% (8,390) in bus registrations in 2024, giving the market itself the distinction of becoming Europe’s largest overall.

The study shows that 2024 also saw a doubling in the number of minibus deliveries, with registrations up by 102.5% (4,816), and the UK accounting for 57.4% of the overall market. Increases were also seen across the deliveries of both single and double-decker buses, which saw growth of 22.5% (1,973) and 69.6% (1,601), respectively.
Registrations across England, Wales and Northern Ireland each saw registration increases of 77.2%, 184.9% and 52.4% respectively, with Scotland seeing a drop of -15.6%.
Of the countries surveyed, England accounted for the largest amount of vehicles delivered at 87.4%, with Britain also maintaining its position as Europe’s biggest ZEV bus market with 1,570 electric or hydrogen vehicles entering service in 2024, an increase of 35.5%.
