UK. Aviation industry groups have once again joined forces to reintroduce the One Too Many campaign, which reminds passengers of the consequences of disruptive behaviour in airports and onboard.
The industry-led initiative is being co-organised by the UK Travel Retail Forum (UKTRF), AirportsUK, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Airlines UK. They represent most of the civil aviation and travel retail industry to ensure safe and pleasant journeys for all passengers.
The campaign is being relaunched amid the increasing demand for travel this busy summer season, with around 8,500 flights per day in the UK.
The initiative warns travellers of the severe penalties for flight disruptions, which include a lifetime ban with a particular carrier and being denied boarding.
Disrupting a flight will lead to imprisonment of up to two years, while those delaying a flight from taking off will have to pay a £5,000 (US$6,400) fine and £80,000 (US$103,000) for those causing mid-air incidents.
Originally launched in summer 2018, the campaign is being endorsed by the UK government and was cited as an example of industry best practice in the aviation industry.
Last year’s summer campaign was promoted through nationwide social media advertisements, including on Facebook and Instagram, over an eight-week period.
The initiative was also endorsed through geo-fenced ads targeting visitors at participating airports, ensuring that the campaign reached 2.5 million passengers via their device while at the airport.
The campaign’s national and local media ads were seen by an estimated 36 million potential travellers, reflecting its widespread impact.
One Too Many campaign advertisements are in place at over 20 UK airports, including London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Manchester, Newcastle International, Liverpool John Lennon and Bristol.
Travel retailers have also taken part in the programme, displaying the campaign signage in their stores.
The campaign represents the shared responsibility of the aviation industry to ensure a unified message is communicated to passengers at all stages of their journey.
UK Travel Retail Forum Chairperson Nigel Keal said: “As the summer travel period intensifies it’s essential to remind everyone that the safety and comfort of all travellers and crew are paramount.
“The One Too Many campaign serves as an important reminder that disruptive behaviour, particularly fuelled by excessive drinking, will not be tolerated.”
Airport Operators Association Chief Executive Karen Dee added: “UK airports are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable travel experience for all passengers. We urge travellers to enjoy their journeys responsibly and not ruin their holidays or the holidays of others.
“Airports will continue to monitor and act against any disruptive behaviour to ensure everyone’s safety.” ✈
