SHOULD Donald Trump have the biggest comeback of all-time in US political history on Tuesday, the United Kingdom will have an anglophile president back in the White House. This is a positive for the UK that it should genuinely be capitalized upon this time.
First of all, I completely understand the reticence of the British public to accept the Donald. From his style, appearance to rhetoric, he is antithetical to British sensibilities.(Continued…)
However, for the sake of the Special Relationship and the Free World, I implore you to keep an open mind to the possibilities of a second Trump Administration, as I have done.
Trump is not the gamble that he was in 2016 because we have already seen a Trump presidency. In his time in office,
Trump prioritized the United Kingdom over all other allied nations, making two state visits – more than any other country. Prime Minister Theresa May was his first overseas visitor in January 2017. It was Japan’s prime minister who received that honour under the Biden/Harris Administration.
Remember, he owns two golf courses in the UK, is half-British himself (his mother was from Scotland), and he attempted a UK-US trade agreement, which President Biden did not pursue at all.
Under Trump’s foreign policy of “peace through strength”, Putin did not invade another country, as he has done under Obama/Biden and Biden/Harris Administrations. Nato allies increased defence spending by $50 billion because of Trump’s insistence that they live up to their commitments.
And there were efforts made to create lasting peace in the Middle East with the Abraham Accords that were expanding to include Saudi Arabia at the time of the 7th October terrorist attacks.
We can expect this type of international policy once again, and not the disastrous Biden policies (ie. the Afghanistan withdrawal) which Kamala Harris says she would not change.
Unlike both his predecessor and his rival, Trump retains a close affinity with the UK and will end global conflicts to Make the West Great Again.
IN only three short months, Vice President Kamala Harris’s Presidential campaign has inspired Americans of all political stripes – – Democrats, traditional Republicans, and Independents – – to unite in writing the next great chapter of our country.
Vice President Harris brings to the Office of the President the leadership maturity and integrity necessary to build consensus and solve complex problems at home and around the world. As she has throughout her career as an elected public servant, she will continue to put country above party and self, honouring the ideals of the Constitution and serving all Americans, including those who disagree with her. Unlike her opponent who plans to surround himself only with loyalists and to go after political rivals, she will appoint a Republican to her cabinet.
Vice President Harris’s priorities as President are unequivocal. Abroad, she will stand by our allies and further strengthen our military. At home, her economic policies will spur intergenerational wealth creation for the middle class by incentivising small businesses and homeownership. She will lower everyday costs of prescription medicine and offer support for childcare and in-home elderly care. She will work with Congress to restore women’s fundamental reproductive freedoms stripped away by Donald Trump.
As President, Kamala Harris, with Tim Walz, will uphold the U.S. Constitution in the face of every threat to it. That is in stark contrast to Donald Trump who tried to stop the certification of a free and fair election, lied about the results of that election then and today, and has set the stage for denying the 2024 election results. Under Kamala Harris, we will finally turn the page on a divisive MAGA Republican chapter.
