As summer draws to a close, many Brits are eager to escape the impending autumn chill for one last sun-soaked holiday. Travel experts are urging those looking for an affordable getaway to consider Türkiye (Turkey), where dining out can cost a fraction of what it does in the UK.
A recent analysis reveals that a three-course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant in Ankara, Türkiye, is nearly a quarter of the price compared to London. The average cost in the UK capital is £80, while in Ankara, it’s just £22.17—a staggering 72.3% saving.
Jorge Díaz Largo, CEO and Founder of Hellotickets, emphasizes the affordability of a Turkish holiday. He states, “For Brits wanting to keep their costs low, Türkiye offers a relatively inexpensive holiday experience, from flights and accommodation to food and activities.” This makes Türkiye an attractive option for those looking to enjoy high-quality cuisine without breaking the bank.
September is said to be an excellent time to visit Türkiye, with average temperatures reaching around 25°C and over 12 hours of daylight each day. This warm weather allows visitors to enjoy the beautiful beaches, swim in the sea, or explore the stunning Turkish landscape. Resorts are generally less crowded during this month, enhancing the overall holiday experience.
Travel experts also point out the cultural richness of Türkiye, particularly in areas like Kuşadasi, which is near the Ancient City of Ephesus. This makes it a perfect spot for those who want a mix of relaxation and history. Additionally, the Datça Peninsula is renowned for its breathtaking coastlines, offering ideal settings for sunbathing and swimming.
For nature enthusiasts, September is a prime time to visit Patara Beach on the Turkish Riviera, where visitors can witness loggerhead turtles nesting. “Measures are in place to ensure that it can be enjoyed by holidaymakers whilst still keeping the turtles safe,” says Díaz Largo. This unique opportunity makes Patara Beach a noteworthy addition to any travel itinerary.
Díaz Largo advises that while there isn’t a specific “cheapest time” to book, planning ahead is crucial. “You should generally try to book your holiday as far ahead as possible,” he notes. Those looking to book excursions can often find discounts by securing their trips early. He recommends booking several months in advance to take advantage of these early-bird rates.
Furthermore, joining loyalty programs for airlines, hotels, and tour operators can help travellers accumulate points and unlock member-exclusive discounts. “A top tip is to join any loyalty programmes of airlines, hotels, and tour operators to accumulate points and receive member-exclusive discounts,” he adds.
With its combination of beautiful beaches, rich history, and affordable dining, Türkiye is shaping up to be a must-visit destination for Brits seeking a cheaper getaway this September.
