Local jockey Ben Jones rode Ben Pauling-trained Handstands to victory in the Grade 2 Towton Novices’ Chase at Ffos Las.
The race – the richest of the season – had been switched from frozen Wetherby to the Carmarthenshire course.
The £40,000 prize pot meant the two-mile race was the most valuable Ffos Las has staged this season after the £50,000 Welsh Champion Hurdle ran back in October.
Due to the milder forecast temperatures for West Wales, Ffos Las only scheduled the meeting in midweek to cover the possible lack of Saturday racing.
It was only the third jumps meeting in Britain this week following the meeting at Taunton on Wednesday and Ayr on Monday.
