Looking for somewhere to go during the summer holidays?
Well, fear not as new research has found the best beach destination in England and Wales.
While many of us are hoping for warmer temperatures in the coming weeks this will certainly get you in the mood for planning a beach break.
Even better, you might not have to travel far as Tynemouth, which is located near Newcastle upon Tyne, has taken the top spot for the best coastal destination.
This is according to Millets who looked at Google reviews based on beach facilities, water quality ratings, ocean temperatures, accessibility and parking costs.

The Tynemouth beach, which is called Longsands Beach, scored an impressive 4.8 out of 5 from visitors and 8.49 out of 10 from judges.
Longsands Beach was praised for its “long stretches of golden sand” and “powerful waves making it ideal for surfing.”
So if you’re looking for a staycation then this is what you need to know.
Sadly, there are no direct trains to Tynemouth, however, you can travel to Newcastle Central which is only 10 miles away by railway.
You can get direct to Newcastle trains from London King’s Cross or the Midlands via York, Edinburgh, and Carlisle.
Then you get the Metro to Tynemouth via the Yellow Line.
Meanwhile, if you’re looking to travel up to the North East by car then you’ll need to head on the A19.
There is plenty for families and couples to see and do in Tynemouth.
According to the Visit North Tyneside website, “It is steeped in history, has some fabulous attractions, great shopping and a vibrant nightlife. This charming village has something to offer everyone.”
You can also visit King Edward’s Bay and Cullercoats Bay. They both have sandy, semi-secluded beaches to enjoy.
Elsewhere, if you’re after some history then you’ll want to head to Tynemouth Castle and Priory. Here you can learn about the Life in the Stronghold exhibition which details the town’s past.
There’s also the famous Tynemouth Market on Saturdays and Sundays. If you’re looking for some vintage clothing then you’ll want to grab a bargain here.
Let’s not forget there are plenty of restaurants, pubs and local fish and chip shops which you can eat at to your heart’s content.
