If you have played gully cricket in your childhood, there is a high chance that at least once you have run into trouble with an angry uncle or aunty in the neighbourhood because the ball might have fallen inside their compound or hit one of their window glasses. And it was not uncommon for rules banning hitting towards that direction to be in place.

According to reports, the ban on hitting sixes was introduced after a neighbour threatened to call the police due to damage to windows, cars, and sheds. The ban has left some cricketers and fans angry and questioning the logic of it.

“Hitting the bowler for a six is part of the glory of the sport. How can you ban it? It’s ridiculous. To take that away removes the joy of it. I don’t agree that the rules should be tinkered with in this fashion,” a cricketer said.
Some also pointed out that cricket used to be played at the same ground long before the houses came up.
“If you buy a house next to a cricket ground, then you’ve got to expect a few cricket balls in your garden,” another cricketer said.
