Reading has faced much development in recent years – it is home to an array of homes and also has an increasing number of large office blocks.
Surprisingly, Reading does not have city status and instead is a town, despite a population of around 175,000 people. It definitely feels more like a city than a town due to its size.
A popular place for those who live in and around the area is The Oracle shopping centre. This impressive building is located in the heart of the town and has more than 80 stores.
While it does get busy, it’s nowhere near as busy as central London meaning you’ll be able to shop without the worry of getting stuck in long queues or being too overcrowded.
The town also has access to several nature spots and countryside nearby. Sonning, a village in Berkshire, is located just 16 minutes away from the town centre and offers a pleasant day out.
People can often be seen on paddle boards on the River Thames, which flows through the area.
There is also a large lake, Redgrave Pinsent Rowing Lake which is great for water sports or just to walk around.
