The Greek islands, with their unmistakable beauty and dreamlike landscapes, captivate travellers from all over the world.
Mykonos in particular stands out for its turquoise beaches, white houses and blue-painted doors adorned with colourful flowers – a dream destination that has become a symbol of the Mediterranean.
However, you don’t need to travel all the way to the Aegean to find places that evoke this magic.
The Almeria coast offers some stunning spots, where you will find beautiful villages resembling something out of a fairy tale.
One stands out for its crystal clear waters that for many tourists, is far from the crowds that descend on the Greek island or Spain’s hotspots like Madrid, Malaga and Barcelona.
Standing out for its modest white houses with blue doors and windows and the colourful boats that rest near the beach, the stunning La Isleta del Moro has maintained its essence as a traditional fishing village.
A picturesque town located in the municipality of Níjar, Almeria, Isleta del Moro appears as a small peninsula almost completely surrounded by crystal-clear waters.
Just 170 people live in the village, with Isleta del Moro standing out for its modest white houses and the colourful boats resting near the beach – exactly what gives it that similar air to Mykonos.
Moreover, peace here is only interrupted in the summer months, when it receives the greatest number of visitors.
La Isleta del Moro is well worth the 500-metre detour from the AL-4200 road from San Jose to Las Negras.
Even on a sunny day in winter, you can sit and watch the sunset and the local fishermen at work from the waterfront cafe. There is a small hostel, Pension la Isleta del Moro, and some apartments to rent for those wishing for a longer stay.
Among its attractions is the White Rock Beach, with 400 metres of fine sand and crystal-clear waters of excellent quality, perfect for enjoying a refreshing swim on a hot day, which can reach the low 30s in the summer.
The view of the bay is dominated by the dual-peaked extinct volcanoes called Volcanes del Fraile.
Those visitors who made the trip did not hold back in their compliments of the village on Tripadvisor, particularly focusing on its water which is more akin to the Aegean than the Atlantic.
One wrote: “Crystal clear waters, lots of fish, very calm. Great for snorkelling and diving. There are several restaurants nearby.”
