Brown -5 (72)
BBC Radio 5 Live
Open debutant Dan Brown is two shots off the lead after a one over 72 today – he has been speaking to Andy Stevenson:
“It was always going to be tricky to back up what I did
yesterday. The conditions didn’t really allow that so it was just very much
managing your expectations.
“I wasn’t expecting to go out and shoot another three or
four under. I was just [taking] one shot at a time and grind it out. It did feel
more of a grind today than yesterday.
“I know I’m capable. A lot of people probably didn’t
know who I was coming into this week, but I feel good and at home on links
golf.
“I’ve played a lot of amateur stuff in the UK where you play links golf
and we’ve had a bit of a period away from that but I came back from Open
qualifying, back on a links course and was comfortable straight away when I was
playing straight away. That’s transcended into this week.”
What was last night like and
what will tonight be like for you? “It was a case of getting some food – I don’t think we
finished until gone 21:30 yesterday so just managed to get some food down me and
headed back and get some rest.”
On probably playing in the final group tomorrow: “I had a warm-up of that
today. There were a few people watching on Thursday and a good few more today so
I feel like I have warmed up to that kind of atmosphere with the crowds and stuff.
I’m looking forward to it.”
If you told yourself a few years ago that you would be on the top page of the leaderboard, would you have believed it? “Absolutely not. In all honestly I didn’t think I would even
get on (the) DP (World Tour) or be a winner so it’s all happening.”
