Long-haul flights can span anywhere from six hours to sixteen hours, but did you know there are actually multiple routes across the planet that stretch beyond long-haul and are classed as super long-haul? One of these flights takes the crown as the longest route in the world, with passengers onboard for almost 19 hours.
The current longest ultra-long-haul flight travels between New York’s JFK Airport and Singapore Changi Airport.
Passengers board a Singapore Airlines Airbus A350 where they will travel approximately 9,537 miles for a scheduled time of 18 hours and 50 minutes.
Travelling in the opposite direction, from Singapore to New York, the journey is only slightly shorter at 18 hours and 40 minutes.
Though the aircraft travels longer, it actually carries fewer passengers, to maximise profit and give customers a little more space. The aircraft does not feature an economy class at all, and instead, most of the space is taken up by a business class.
At the rear of the plane is a Premium economy cabin, which is slightly more spacious and has more amenities than your standard economy cabin. You can expect more leg room, a footrest, an adjustable headrest, noise-cancelling headphones and WiFi throughout the flight.
In business class, travellers can experience a 1-2-1 seating layout for ultimate privacy, as well as seats which transition into fully flat beds helping you maximise rest while travelling.
Before jetting off, business class customers can also receive their main course up to 24 hours before travelling, with restaurant-quality dishes such as slow-roasted beef fillet, grilled shrimp and scallops prawn-pork dumpling noodle soup.
Travel blogger GMO on the GO shared his experience of the flight on YouTube Shorts. The travel blogger sat in Premium Economy on his journey. He said: “There is a pretty solid entertainment menu”.
The travel blogger also commended the service on Singapore Airlines, saying that it is “always wonderful” and that the staff did a great job of keeping customers comfortable for the 18-and-a-half-hour journey.
Prices for the flight vary, and can sometimes hit the five-figure mark depending on the time of year and cabin you opt for. However, the ultra-long journey means you need not worry about layovers and gives you more time at your destination.
