Anento is a small village about halfway between Madrid and Barcelona. The picturesque area, located in the province of Zaragoza, went in recent years from having 2000 visitors a year to having 45,000 tourists annually.
Its increased popularity is due to the unique experience it offers – its turquoise natural spring and striking Gothic architecture create an exciting area for people to explore.
Anento also has several hiking trails that you can do and you can pick a hiking trail that suits you based on how much time you have or the difficulty of the route.
Be aware that the sun and heat in this area can be extreme in summer so always make sure to check the weather and ensure that you are prepared with the right equipment.
Anento has also benefited from increased tourism, and now has two new restaurants, a hotel and a tourism office created to cater for the holidaymakers.
Despite the increase in visitors, Anento retains its charm as a small village.
It is surrounded by reddish landscapes and greenery and has been called “a jewel of Aragon” – the region in which the village can be found.
You can see Anento in one day due to it being quite small, so it is recommended to take a day trip to the unusual spot from somewhere nearby. It is only one hour away from the city of Zaragoza.
Many travellers post-pandemic opt for a holiday which offers peace and tranquillity.
Anento is the perfect place to disconnect from the outside world and reflect on the simplicity of life while enjoying a peaceful break.
The village has an interesting history. In the 20th century, it was on the verge of disappearing as it had only 11 registered people living there.
Today, it has become a more well-established place, and although still small it managed to develop into a tourism destination.
