A TikToker with a passion for travel has recently put Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, in the spotlight, calling it a “criminally underrated” European destination.
In a video, content creator @shetravelledtheworld described Tallinn as the perfect winter getaway, a “fairytale winter wonderland” that remains largely undiscovered by mainstream tourism.
According to the well-traveled TikToker, who has explored 68 countries worldwide and over 30 in Europe, Tallinn offers a magical atmosphere, particularly in the colder months.
She highlighted its enchanting Christmas markets, medieval charm, and unique excursions, such as visiting a husky park where visitors can walk dogs through snow-covered forests.
She said: “If you’re looking for something super quaint and cute, this is where you need to be.
“I also did the cutest excursion, which was to a husky park, and we got to meet all the huskies. There were 20 of them, and they gave us a couple to walk through the woods, and it was literally so magical, the sun through the woods with the snow, it was the best ever.”
Tallinn’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a key attraction for visitors, with its cobblestone streets, gothic spires, and beautifully preserved medieval architecture.
Many travellers compare it to the charm of Western Europe’s most famous old towns but at a fraction of the price.
While the Baltic countries use the euro, prices remain cheaper than destinations like Paris, Rome, or Amsterdam, making Tallinn an appealing choice for budget-conscious explorers.
Travellers who have visited Tallinn echo this enthusiasm.
One TripAdvisor reviewer, initially sceptical after visiting other Baltic capitals, was pleasantly surprised, writing: “After enjoying the old towns of Riga and Vilnius, we were led to believe that Tallinn would not offer the same charm and beauty.
“This was WRONG! Tallinn has an amazing, historic and beautiful old town with spectacular architecture stretching 8 centuries, impressive churches, cosy squares, a largely intact city wall, and a wide range of restaurants, including historic Estonian theme places, with Olde Hansa taking the first prize.”
Another visitor described the city as a “breathtaking experience.”
They said: “Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is a hearty, mesmerising place that offers everything. There is simply the old town, the exciting history and just always has tourists everywhere you go. Tallinn is a stunning capital. It really feels like Italy, but all in all, a breathtaking experience that has plenty on offer!”
For UK travellers, flights to Tallinn from London can cost as little as £37 return, making it an easily accessible and affordable European escape.
Despite its relatively low tourist numbers compared to destinations like Bruges or Prague, those who visit Tallinn are often left in awe of its beauty, history, and magical winter ambience.
With its medieval allure, festive atmosphere, and budget-friendly appeal, Tallinn is fast becoming recognized as one of Europe’s best-kept secrets.
