The England men’s cricket team will be out to defend its crown at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, being co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA.
England, the T20 World Cup winners from 2010 and 2022, are the joint-most successful team in T20 WC history alongside the West Indies, who won the 2012 to 2016 editions.
The Josh Buttler-led English cricket team will be looking to edge ahead of the co-hosts with a third crown this year but will need to curb a well-established trend to achieve the feat. No team has ever successfully defended the T20 World Cup title to date.
For the T20 World Cup 2024, England have been drawn in Group B and will start their campaign against neighbours Scotland at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on June 4.
Buttler and Co. will then face Ashes rivals Australia in the headline Group B clash on June 8 before crossing paths with Oman and Namibia.
A total of 20 teams are competing in the T20 World Cup 2024 – four more than the last edition in 2022 hosted by Australia.
The 20 teams have been divided into four groups of five each for the group stage. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 8, which starts on June 20.
For the Super 8, the eight teams will be divided into two groups of four and the top two from each group will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled on June 26 and 27.
The final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is set to be played at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on June 29.
England beat Pakistan to clinch the T20 World Cup title in 2022 while their maiden title in 2010 had come at the expense of Australia.
England are coming into the T20 World Cup 2024 on the back of a 2-0 victory over Pakistan in a four-match T20I series at home. The other two matches were abandoned.
The T20 World Cup 2024 cricket matches will be live streamed on SkyGO, NOW and Sky Sports App in England and the UK. Live broadcast of the T20 WC cricket matches will be available on Sky Sports TV channels in England. Sky Sports Cricket, Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Action will televise the matches in the UK.
