The facility has a special focus on increasing girls’ participation in fitness, offering them the tools to become more engaged in physical activities.
The school, which is part of the Athena Learning Trust, will be hosting girls’ fitness clubs to further support students’ fitness journeys and after Easter, these sessions will also be open to boys, offering inclusive opportunities for all students to get involved.
Staff members are also able to benefit from the facilities, with a club being run for them after school on Wednesdays.
The PE Department at Pool Academy aims to provide a broad and robust curriculum that acts as a vehicle for developing student wellbeing.
They provide various opportunities to participate in sport and develop students’ understanding of mental, social and physical wellbeing.
Extra-curricular opportunities are provided throughout the year, across a wide range of sporting disciplines, such as hockey, girls’ and boys’ football, rounders and athletics.
Year 7 students have been the first to undergo their induction, and complete a session, in the school’s brand-new functional fitness suite.
Nick Ward, the principal at Pool Academy said: “I was thrilled to see the positive response from our Year 7 class to the new functional fitness suite and it’s exciting to watch students take an active role in their fitness journey.
“The introduction of the suite is a real game-changer for the school, and we’re grateful to Active Cornwall for their support in funding this.
“We hope this facility will inspire students and staff to prioritise their health and well-being.”
