An established sports broadcaster has been arrested on suspicion of raping a child after a 4am raid on his home.
The TV presenter was questioned for around 18 hours after a search on his property in southern England.
It is alleged a child aged under 10 was raped on more than one occasion over a period of time.
After a search of the man’s home, computer devices and documents taken away for examination while he remains on bail pending further inquiries.
The Sun had been first to reveal details of his arrest. His arrest and identity has been corroborated by Telegraph Sport, but he cannot be named for legal reasons. The alleged offences are historical.
His employers have been made aware of the police investigation and his arrest. Telegraph Sport has contacted the company for comment after the complainant made the allegation recently.
She reported the claim to police and was interviewed by specialist child abuse investigation officers at a dedicated suite as an investigation was launched.
A neighbour of the man arrested told The Sun of the raid on his house: “The police turned up very early. They took him away and were there for a while carrying out a search. Everyone is shocked at his arrest.”
The police force conducting the investigation confirmed the arrest to The Sun.
