This October, a major project in Spain is set to be completed which will make a huge difference to tourism in the region.
The renovation of the Borreguiles gondola lift is planned to be completed by the end of the month, while it is being considered open earlier access to the slopes.
Last ski season was historic in terms of investment but it was recognised that better equipment would be needed to improve Granada’s Sierra Nevada.
Cetursa, the company that manages the resort, has completed maintenance work on ski lifts throughout the summer. It is now working on £5.8m worth of projects to ensure new features are available for the 2024/2025 ski season.
The most ambitious investment programme ever seen in the history of the resort was carried out last year when Junta de Andalucía took advantage of the NextGeneration European funds, SUR reports.
The gondola lift was renovated after 33 years which was the star investment at the resort.
Cetursa has a strategic plan for improving the resort which spans over 10 years, from 2020-2030. It is hoped that the resort will become more accessible and sustainable.
The plan envisages a global investment of 150 million euros (£125m) in different phases until 2030 to transform and continuously improve the resort’s infrastructure and also increase its accommodation.
The Veleta chairlift and the Zayas ski lift will be modernised and summer of 2025 will see the renovation of the Nevasol restaurant in Borreguiles take place.
In the original plan, the demolition of the restaurant was discussed as it has been closed for four years, however, plans to build a new one have been delayed.
For beginners, there will also be another slope built which will attract a new clientele to the area.
The 80 cabins on the resort have been undergoing renovation for weeks as the area makes a drastic change to modernise its facilities.
New cabins will feature padded seats and polycarbonate windows, as well as the replacement of all the safety elements. These should be open at the end of October.
There will be an addition of fast food restaurants, charging points for electric vehicles and new information screens.
Further renovations to the area are also being contemplated to bring the rest of the facilities up to standard with the new additions.
