A SMALL UK airport has revealed plans to expand it’s terminal amid a wave of new flights being launched.
Bournemouth Airport is set to welcome as many as one million passengers this year, with a range of new routes.
Ryanair launched new flights from the airport to Agadir in Morocco, while TUI launched thousands more seats from Bournemouth Airport to destinations across Greece and Spain, as well as launched a second aircraft.
And Jet2 confirmed the airport would become it’s 12th UK base, with 16 new flights to launch from the airport next summer.
This includes eight new Spanish destinations, four new flights to Greece and a number across Turkey and Portugal, with the first flights in April 2025 to Tenerife.
Following the addition of flights, the airport is predicted to welcome one million passengers last year – the first time in 15 years.
The airport is now looking into expansion plans for it’s only terminal to cope with the increased demand.
A spokesman told local media: “With the fantastic news about Jet2.com and Jet2holidays making Bournemouth their 12th UK airport base with the start of 16 routes from next April, we are looking at how we can invest to deliver the best possible customer experience to all passengers.
“We are working with the local authority and other stakeholders as we plan that investment, and we look forward to sharing more details in the future.”
Regional and City Airports, who own Bournemouth Airport have revealed their £5million plans for the airport.
This will include new facilities as well as new staff and equipment, although the cost of an expanded terminal has not yet been revealed.
New airport information desks, extra baggage areas and more Border Force desks will be added to reduce queues in both arrivals and departures.
And Bournemouth Airport will also be improving it’s security area with new scanners, as part of the new rules which will result in the scrapping of the 100ml liquid rules.
However, the airport has missed the June deadline – along with other airports such as Manchester and London Heathrow – and has not revealed an official date for the change of the liquid rules.
Teesside Airport was the first to scrap the 100ml liquid rules last March, swiftly followed by London City Airport
Birmingham Airport already scrapped the strict liquid rules last week while Bristol Airport will from June 14.
A number of UK airports have also revealed huge expansion plans.
One of the biggest is Manchester Airport.
It’s £1.3billion renovation at started back in 2015, which included doubling the size of Terminal 2
Other works include a second pier with more boarding gates, as well as a champagne bar, 27 shops and restaurants.
It is set to be completed next year.
East Midlands Airport’s £120million renovation will include new security halls, luggage scanners and resurfaced runways will be completed in the next five years.
