While Shein plans its entry onto the London Stock Exchange via a proposed IPO, the digital fashion giant could also be lining up to enter London’s High Court.
Shein has been hit with a lawsuit by UK competitor Oh Polly and its sister brand Bo&Tee. They have filed the legal action to the Intellectual Property list of the High Court against Shein and its entities, reported CityAM.
The case surrounds copyright and design right claims. Oh Polly has enlisted law firm Fieldfisher for its claim, while Shein has instructed Harbottle & Lewis for its defence.
This isn’t the first copyright and design right claim Shein has faced. For instance, in March, shoe retailer Golden Wolfe and its parent group filed a case against Shein over allegations it copied 45 of its shoe styles.
None of the parties involved in the latest lawsuit commented for the article.
In April, it was widely reported that Shein had more than doubled its profits in 2023. It made more that $2 billion in profits from around $45 billion in gross merchandise value online last year. The China-founded but now Singapore-based business had recorded net income of $700 million in 2022 and $1.1 billion in 2021.
