THE UK’s most affordable and cosy pubs have been ranked – and one Scots boozer took the top gong.
Winter is fast approaching and the idea of an affordable pint in a cosy pub is more delightful than ever.
Travel experts at Moneyboat have compiled a list of the top ten best value cosy pubs in the UK – and only a handful of Scots venues made the cut.
But one Edinburgh bar clinched the number one spot.
With an overall rating of 6.98, this comfortable and quality pub is described as “a hidden jewel…steeped in heritage”.
The pub’s cheapest pint goes for £5.80 and there is a wide selection of delicious dishes on their menu.
The Queens Arms in the capital city was hailed as the UK’s most affordable cosy pub.
It garnered 66 five-star reviews mentioning the word ‘cosy’.
The study evaluated factors such as TripAdvisor ratings, value ratings and the number of five-star Tripadvisor reviews mentioning the word ‘cosy’.
The Old Smiddy in Glasgow‘s east end also came a close second.
It also managed to secure a TripAdvisor rating of 4.5 but with just 12 five-star reviews mentioning ‘cosy’, it fell short.
The only other Scots pub to make a list was The Old Bell Inn in Edinburgh‘s Southside, in the fifth spot.
A traditional Scottish pub, The Old Bell Inn has a varied menu of pub grub and a large selection of whiskies, liqueurs and spirits and specialises in conditioned ales.
It comes as the most difficult places to get a pint in the UK were revealed- and 11 of them are in Scotland.
A new study has found that a number of Scots locations are among the most challenging areas in the UK to get a pint.
Topping the charts as the WORST place for ordering a brew is the Na h-Eileanan Siar, otherwise known as the Outer Hebrides.
Pubs in the Outer Hebrides are few and far between, and with the fewest pubs per 1,000 hectares, the Outer Hebrides is 99.6% lower than the UK average, according to the research by Play Book Slots.
The Shetland, Highland and Orkney Islands all follow close behind that as the least accessible places in the UK to get a pint.
