EXCLUSIVE: Gordon McKee met with AI minister Feryal Clark on Thursday to discuss the possibility of Scotland’s largest city becoming an AI Growth Zone.
A Scottish Labour MP has met with a UK Government minister in a bid to bring Artificial Intelligence (AI) jobs to Glasgow.
Gordon McKee met with AI minister Feryal Clark on Thursday to discuss the possibility of Scotland’s largest city becoming an AI Growth Zone.
AI is an advanced computer technology which do everything from answering questions to creating artwork and music.
Glasgow has made an expression of interest to become one of the zones, with the formal process starting in the spring.
The Glasgow South MP has said that doing so would bring jobs to the city. McKee made the point to Clark that the city has great potential because of its universities and the cold climate.

McKee said: “It was great to meet with the AI Minister to encourage her to pick Glasgow as one of the AI Growth Zones announced by the government.
“Glasgow is full of amazing talent and we are already playing our part in helping to build the future. I want to attract well paid, highly skilled jobs to Glasgow and this can help do that”
Keir Starmer had previously backed Glasgow as a “potential” growth zone. Responding to a question from McKee in January, the Prime Minister said: “I agree with him that Scotland has real potential for AI growth zones. I’ll make sure he gets to meet with the relevant minister to discuss.”
