Passengers on a Ryanair flight to Palma, Mallorca, were left frustrated and stranded after their journey took a chaotic turn due to fierce winds that forced an aborted landing.
The Saturday evening flight from Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, was initially diverted to Valencia.
Approximately half of the passengers opted to disembark in Valencia, reportedly too shaken to continue flying.
However, instead of resuming its journey to Palma, the flight returned to Santiago, leaving the remaining passengers furious and stranded.
Complaints have surfaced about Ryanair’s lack of communication and support during the ordeal.
Passenger Nekane Otero told Majorca Daily Bulletin: “We weren’t given dinner, breakfast, or any information.”
She finally arrived in Palma on Monday, two days after the scheduled arrival.
Similarly, Antonio Comas recounted his frustration, stating, “Ryanair didn’t help us at all. It was terrible.”
Travel complications mounted for many passengers, with limited and costly travel options.
Some passengers reportedly paid up to €300 more for flights, while others rented cars to travel to Madrid for direct connections.
Direct flights were fully booked, and alternative routes often included lengthy layovers.
Claims for compensation against Ryanair have already been filed by affected passengers, who criticized the airline’s handling of the situation and lack of assistance.
Ryanair has been contacted for comment.
