CASPI STAR (system – second time out 2yos, debuted at Goodwood, where beaten by 7L or less)
Undulating Goodwood is not the ideal track for juvenile newcomers but those that show promise in defeat there by running within seven lengths of the winner often make good bets second time out, landing 30 of their 90 starts since the beginning of the 2021 season for a profit of £30.97 to the usual £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 19.88, A/E = 1.51). Charlie Johnston’s CASPI STAR was beaten by less than five lengths when a 9-2 sixth of seven in a Class 2 fillies’ novice contest last month and the daughter of Camelot drops down to Class 5 level today.

YOKKELL (system – Fast Company, hurdles, good to soft or softer going)
Progeny of the sire Fast Company have a solid record over hurdles when encountering genuinely good to soft or softer going (based on race times, not the official going), landing 37 of their 315 starts for a profit of £70.89 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 27.85, A/E = 1.33). Irish raider YOKKELL bolted up at Down Royal on her recent debut over hurdles and can follow up.

CASTLE ROBIN (system – Charlie Longsdon, September)
Charlie Longsdon has a good record at this time of year and backing his runners in the month of September would have found 67 winners from 274 bets (24.5%) for a profit of £62.13 (expected winners = 49.24, A/E = 1.36). He has five qualifiers here and at Fontwell today with CASTLE ROBIN, better equipped than most of his rivals to handle the rain-softened going, taken to land this 3m handicap chase.
