Andrew heads to the Curragh and Newcastle’s all-weather meeting for his three recommended bets/trades on Tuesday, October 22nd…
Newcomer CORCOVADO has already attracted some market interest ahead of his debut in this 6f maiden and, on breeding, the son of Night Of Thunder could be ready to go at the first time of asking. His sire’s juvenile debutants also enjoy plenty of good in the ground and backing them on good to soft or softer going would have found 14 winners from 57 bets for a profit of £27.80 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 8.15, A/E = 1.72). Since the beginning of 2022, his trainer is three from 15 with two-year-old newcomers (winners at 14-1, 10-1 and 7-2) and this £105,000 yearling looks worth chancing. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back CORCOVADO in Curragh 12.30
LORD ERSKINE finished third in the Amateur Riders Derby 12 months ago and looks a solid buy (or each-way play) in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market with Spreadex in this year’s renewal. The veteran can usually be relied upon to run his race in handicaps on soft or heavy going when he’s had a recent run (within the past four weeks), recording form figures of 111018049190211442419312 (9-24) for a profit of £102.85 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 2.41, A/E = 3.74). The 1m4f trip is on the short side – he won over 2m1f here last autumn – but they often go off too hard in this race and he’s likely to be finishing to good effect.
Recommendation: Back LORD ERSKINE in Curragh 2.35
VELVET WHISPER was backed late from 4-1 into 2-1 when making her debut in a 7f fillies’ maiden at Southwell earlier this month but a slow start proved insurmountable, and she could never quite get to Irish raider Shining River who was prominent throughout. That was still a hugely promising effort from the daughter of Calyx and her sire’s juvenile progeny remain profitable to back blind on the all-weather, landing 15 of their 53 starts for a profit of £128.18 to a £1 level stake at SP. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back VELVET WHISPER in Newcastle 5.25
