“You want to get the win as soon as possible. It’s obviously been a bit longer than we had hoped but fingers crossed that we can turn it around on Saturday.”

By Saturday evening, Portsmouth will have already played all three of the sides relegated from the Premier League, as well as three of last season’s top eight in the Championship in a tricky set of opening fixtures.

“Everyone knew it was going to be difficult,” Ogilvie said. “We just need to get through this tough time we’re having at the minute.

“That’s part and parcel of getting promoted. You’re in a better league and it’s about us now working hard and trying to get that first win will be important.”
