Police were called to the DCBL Stadium after a brawl broke out
Brawl breaks out between football fans
A video shared with the ECHO shows the moment a person is kicked to the ground before being dragged along the floor when a brawl breaks out on Wednesday night. It comes as Cheshire Police were called to reports of an assault outside the DCBL Stadium in Lower House Lane, Widnes, last night (October 9).
The attack happened around 10.10pm after a match between Widnes Football Club and Stalybridge Celtic had finished. Following the incident Widnes Football Club has said it was “appalled“ by the behaviour.
The club said in a statement: “Widnes Football Club is appalled by the behaviour of a group of individuals following tonight’s match against Stalybridge Celtic. The Club is extremely disappointed that an excellent result for the team on the pitch has been marred by the unsavoury scenes that followed afterwards.

“We will continue, in cooperation with the DCBL Stadium, to adopt a zero tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour inside and outside the Stadium on a matchday. We would like to make clear that we will not allow a mindless minority to spoil match days at the DCBL Stadium, or elsewhere, for the majority of supporters who just want to support their team loudly and proudly.
“The Club will be co-operating fully and working alongside the DCBL Stadium and Cheshire Police as a full investigation is carried out. We will be carrying out a full review of our match day operations and will be implementing changes ahead of our upcoming fixture against Hednesford Town.”
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At 10.10pm on Thursday 9 October police were called to reports of an assault outside Widnes Rugby Club on Lower House Lane, Widnes. Officers attended the scene and on arrival they found that the victim had already left the area and had not left any contact details.
“Enquiries to trace the man are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire police at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us quoting IML 1936533.”
