Plymouth Argyle head coach Wayne Rooney said the club is closing in on signing a new goalkeeper.
The Pilgrims are looking to replace Michael Cooper after he joined Sheffield United last week.
Conor Hazard is Argyle’s only experienced goalkeeper at present with 19-year-old academy graduate Zak Baker acting as back-up.
“We’re close, but it’s down to the club obviously, and the club we’re speaking to. Last I heard it’s on them, waiting for them to get back to us on it,” Rooney told BBC Radio Devon.
“It is close, if it’s done by Saturday I don’t know, I hope so, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
Cooper’s move after the start of the season has left Argyle with less time and fewer options to find another goalkeeper to work alongside Northern Ireland’s Hazard.
The Pilgrims have been linked with Blackpool’s Daniel Grimshaw as they look to bolster the side before the transfer window closes.
“There’s a few keepers we’re looking at, but I don’t think it’s fair for me to name any player or another club’s players while they’re still at that football club,” said Rooney.
“I think these things do take long because with the timing of Michael Cooper leaving you’re into the season, so whatever goalkeeper we’re looking at that club has to try and have something in place for themselves, so it can take a little bit more time than you hope.
“But what’s important is we get the right one in.
“We’re hoping to have someone in for the game on Saturday, that is looking positive, but until that’s done I can’t confirm that.”
