Multiple people have died, and others have fallen seriously ill, at a popular tourist destination – with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office issuing an alert
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has sounded the alarm for Brits travelling to a beloved holiday spot after a spate of serious illnesses and deaths. The updated alert highlighted that multiple holidaymakers have suffered grave consequences in Turkey due to consuming illegally made local booze.
Last Friday, the FCDO stated: “There has been an increase in the number of deaths and serious illnesses in Turkey, including in Ankara and Istanbul, caused by drinking illegally produced local spirits and counterfeit bottles of branded alcohol.”
Those currently in or considering a trip to Turkey are advised to stay vigilant.

Essential tips given include purchasing drinks solely from licensed establishments, verifying unbroken seals on bottles, avoiding any with shoddy labels or misspellings, and steering away from homemade tipples. Should anyone fall ill from consuming such beverages, immediate medical care is imperative.
Additionally, the Foreign Office reminds UK travellers to ensure their passport has at least 150 days left on it upon entry and contains at least one entirely blank page. Moreover, the guidance stresses: “If entering at a land border, make sure officials stamp and date your passport at the border crossing. Check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet requirements.”, reports the Express.
“Renew your passport if you need to. You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.”
