Many Brits are embracing autumn staycations, opting for cosy accommodations, hearty meals, and scenic walks instead of sunny getaways abroad.
A recent study by the credit card company Aqua analysed various factors such as accommodation prices, search trends, and weather, highlighting one seaside location as one of the top choices in the country.
In seventh place, the well-loved coastal town of Eastbourne is said to have weekend stays as cheap as £96. This is just £22 more than Torquay, the top-ranked option, which offers weekend stays starting from £74.
Eastbourne, located on the Sussex coast, offers a relaxing mix of seaside beauty, enhanced by views of the English Channel, and a variety of cultural attractions, including the popular Victorian pier.
Just a short distance from the town, Beachy Head boasts the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain, rising to 162m (531ft) above sea level, among the dramatic coastal scenery, ideal for walking and photography.
Also easily accessible from Eastbourne, South Downs National Park offers stunning hiking trails, wildlife, and breathtaking views of the countryside, which looks captivating in autumn.
Visitors have shared their thoughts on travel website Tripadvisor, where many highlighted the tranquil and “quiet” atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle.
Entitling their review “Quiet, peaceful seaside resort,” Ms_NVS said: “An excellent place to get away for a quiet weekend from the city. Lots of hotels, B&Bs, as well as dining places.
“If you are there – make sure you go to Fusciardis – a little cafe on the seafront specialising in Italian ice cream! Fantastic sundaes!”
UKNorseman added: “Eastbourne is probably the little sister to Brighton, which is only about 30 minutes drive away to the west.
“This town has a splendid promenade where you can take a stroll anytime. Abundance of shops are mainly in the centre, not far from the railway station.
“Majority of the hotels and restaurants are to be found nearer the sea front.” (sic)
“Eastbourne is a very nice quiet area along the coast of south east of England,” Julesmama81 commented.
