An Emirates passenger has shared ten things you might not know about flying with the airline.
Emirates is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and offers flights to destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, the Middle East and the Pacific. It is a major airline and passengers can fly in economy class, premium economy, business class or first class.
Samraa, who works in Dubai’s marketing industry, posted a video on TikTok showing her experience onboard an Emirates flight in economy class. She titled the clip ‘10 things you didn’t know about flying with Emirates’.
The first is that you can access free WiFi for texting. If you are an Emirates Skywards Blue member you can take advantage of free unlimited access to WhatsApp, Messenger and other text messages throughout the flight as a business class, premium, economy or economy class passenger. Emirates Skywards silver or gold members travelling in economy or premium economy class can also access this perk.
Samraa also said you can call passengers in other seats on the same flight. In the TikTok video she posted a clip holding up a device with the text “you can call other seats with this”. Emirates in-flight entertainment system, Ice, allows passengers on the same flight to communicate with each other.
You can also watch live TV with Emirates’ Ice TV Live, including sports matches from the English Premier League to the NFL, NBA, tennis majors and more. Each passenger on-board has their own personal TV screen with up to 6,500 channels.
Another tip Samraa shared about flying with Emirates is that you can ask for more drinks as “you are not limited to just one” and you can ask for more snacks for free, as long as they still have some left.
Other things the marketing employee mentioned that you might not know are that you can adjust the head rest on your seat for more comfort, you can charge your phone with a USB or plug, you are given earphones, a pillow and a blanket, there are different sized bathrooms, which come with sanitary pads for women, and you have access to the cameras outside the plane.
Samraa’s TikTok video has amassed an impressive 1.5 million views, 56,800 likes and more than 500 comments so far. One user said: “So glad you are showing economy! It’s not as bad as people make out.”
Another added: “Love flying with Emirates! Kids love it, seats are comfortable, lots of shows for the kids to watch, they get given activity packs to keep, the flight attendant comes round [and] takes a Polaroid pic of them!”
Even though Emirates is some people’s favourite airline, it wasn’t the winner of the “best airline” accolade in 2025. In February, the victor was crowned. And to many holidaymakers’ surprise, Qatar Airways didn’t get the top spot either – so click through to see who won!
