The Babar Azam-led Pakistan men’s cricket team will face Jos Buttler-less England in the third T20I of the ongoing four-match series on Tuesday (May 28). England’s white-ball captain Buttler will miss the third T20I to be with his wife Louise, who is expecting the birth of their third child. Buttler was the top scorer for England in the 2nd T20I played on Saturday (May 25) and won the Player of the Match award. In his absence, Moeen Ali will lead the defending T20 World Cup winners in the third T20I at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
After losing the second T20I by 23 runs in Birmingham, the third match is a must-win for the Men in Green. If the Babar Azam-led side goes down on Tuesday, England will seal the last international series before the start of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
In the third T20I, Babar Azam will have a chance to create history by becoming the leading run scorer in T20I history. The 29-year-old right-handed batter who went past Rohit Sharma’s tally of 3974 runs in T20Is during the 2nd T20I needs 51 more runs to break Virat Kohli’s world record of scoring 4037 runs in the shortest format of the game at the international level.
