Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats have been on a mission as they meet with several veteran transfers still in the portal.
One of those names is Oklahoma Sooners transfer Otega Oweh. The talented wing was in Lexington on Thursday for an official visit to Kentucky and met with new head coach Mark Pope.
After the visit, Oweh has officially committed to the Cats and will be continuing his college basketball career in Lexington. He announced the news Saturday on Instagram.
In high school, Oweh played for Blair Academy in New Jersey and was a 4-star recruit in the class of 2022. He was ranked as the No. 70 player and No. 5 shooting guard in the class, according to 247 Sports Composite.
After a solid high school career, Oweh committed to the Sooners in 2021, where he had a quiet freshman season, only averaging 4.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 13.2 minutes per game.
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Oweh then took a leap in Year 2, starting almost every game for the Sooners, upping his averages to 11.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 assists in 24.9 minutes per game.
Oweh reached his career-high in scoring when he dropped 23 points against North Carolina back in December. At one point, he was a projected NBA Draft pick but tapered off down the stretch. He was held to single-digit scoring in 10 of his last 12 games.
If there is one thing Mark Pope and his offense does well, it is 3-point shooting. Oweh impressed with those numbers this season in Norman as well, averaging an impressive 37.7% from behind the arc last season.
Pope is continuing to build his roster in Lexington, and Oweh is a fantastic addition to the roster’s veteran presence with room to continue growing into a star that helps get Kentucky back to making deep postseason runs.
Welcome to Lexington!
