Cleveland Browns will end a near decade long wait for a return to London as the NFL’s biggest ever International Games slate takes shape.
The Browns will be joined in London as home teams in 2025 by the New York Jets who are back for a second successive year and the Jacksonville Jaguars who have played in London every year since 2013,
Cleveland have only once played in London, a 33-16 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings in 2017 at Twickenham, and in 2025 they will be the designated home team at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Jets will also play host at Tottenham’s purpose-built 62,850 capacity facility, while the Jags continue their agreement with Wembley Stadium.
The visiting teams and the dates will be confirmed in the Spring when the NFL’s full schedule for the 2025 season is revealed.
It promises to be the NFL biggest ever international schedule, after agreement with the 32 team owners that up to eight ‘league operated regular season games’ can be facilitated.
“We look forward to welcoming the Jets, Browns and Jaguars to London as part of the 2025 NFL International Games.
“This season will see us surpass 40 regular season games in the capital, a testament to the role the U.K. has played in growing the game globally.
The London games are a continued catalyst for year-round fan engagement and we are focused on serving our 15 million fans, reaching new communities and driving growth in flag football participation, which now sees over 100,000 young people play the game.”Henry Hodgson
Three countries, with the promise of more, have already been confirmed to host games in 2025.
The NFL’s international expansion heads to Germany for a fourth season, and will also visit Spain for a first ever game.
Berlin’s Olympic Stadium will become the third German city to host the league after Munich and Frankfurt over the last three years.
Real Madrid‘s refurbished Santiago Bernabeu Stadium will be the venue for Spain’s much anticipated debut.
Further announcements could come, with Ireland suggested as a possible host for a first ever game, while Mexico should also be back on the agenda and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has already confirmed his intentions.
“We are definitely going to Spain, we announced that,” Goodell told NFL Network during the final game of 2024’s International Series in Germany in November.
“We expect to return to Mexico City. We expect to return to Brazil. We will certainly be back in the U.K. And we’re also looking at the potential of another game in the U.K. area in Ireland, possibly.
“That’s a possibility. And we’ll certainly be back here in Germany. So if that total’s eight, that’s what we’re shooting for.”
The Jets and Jags hold marketing rights in the U.K, as part of the league’s Global Markets Program, and the Pittsburgh Steelers were awarded rights to the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
With college football having been played in Dublin for the last three years, speculation has suggested the Steelers – with their ownership’s Irish heritage – could play in the country.
Mexico has hosted games in 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2022 and is widely expected to be back on the rotation from 2025 at a fully renovated Azteca Stadium.
Brazil hosted it’s first game in Sao Paolo in 2024, when the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles met in Week 1.
The Browns, Jags and Jets all face an uncertain offseason, with both the Jets and Jaguars on the lookout for a new head coach.
The Jets fired Robert Saleh after their defeat to the Vikings in London in Week 5, while the Jags parted ways with Doug Pederson at the end of the regular season.
The Browns own the second overall pick in the NFL Draft, and with doubts over an injured and underperforming Deshaun Watson could pick a quarterback with Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders expected to be the first QBs off the board.
The Jags have the fifth pick, and the Jets will select seventh as all three teams look to improve on disappointing 2024 seasons that saw them fall well short of the playoffs.
