Swim giant Speedo has unveiled a new campaign to boost sales and engagement with the tagline ‘Less Gym, More Swim’. The campaign initiative provides “professionally curated fitness drills and inspirational content”.
From this month, Less Gym More Swim is rolling out across Speedo channels.
This latest offering from Speedo “aims to inspire fitness communities to add swim into their routines and start reaping the benefits of the original fully body workout”.
It’s an interesting idea with the brand promoting swimming not just as an end in itself but as a way to boost performance in other sports.
It makes sense given that we’re told engaging 24 different muscle groups, “swim-based training not only offers a refreshing way to supplement the typical training environment but also supports development in strength, flexibility, endurance and mental wellbeing, making it a perfect addition for those looking to boost performance in primary sports such as football, golf, running, body building or baseball”.
Swim drills and inspirational content will also support wider disciplines across core strength and body-building, “further showcasing the far-reaching benefits of swim”.
The company said a OnePoll survey of 1,572 people who both swim and run at least once a fortnight in the UK, France and US saw them reporting improved stamina in 87% of participants, with 89% feeling fitter and stronger, when adding swim to their routines. Further studies found that runners incorporating just a small amount of swimming (just 10% of their running training) improved 3.2km runs by over 13 seconds in eight weeks.
Swim workouts also provide an effective calorie burner with just half an hour of steady swimming burning up to 350 calories, the company said.
To support these goals, the swim drills will provide easy-to-follow swim fitness content, “designed to inspire both core swimmers and wider fitness communities”.
