The star-power will be out in full force in the Bay Area on Friday night. After a captivating first half of the NBA season — bursting with strong individual performances, momentous milestones and tries galore — All-Star weekend is finally upon us.
There are a host of captivating events slated to capture interest in the coming 72 hours. Sunday’s All-Star Game tends to inspire more discussion than most events, while the skills challenge, three-point shootout and slam dunk contest have proven vital spectacles across the past few decades.
But on Friday, supernovas take the floor, some of whom are amateur, others who have career accolades worthy of adulation.
Oakland Arena plays host to the 2025 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, a matchup teeming with Bay Area flavor. The spectacle is headlined by a pair of San Francisco sporting icons returning home: Barry Bonds and Jerry Rice.
They’ll lead squads marked by their high-profile nature. Be it streamers Kai Cenat and Druski, musicians Noah Kahan and Shaboozey, Olympians Masai Russell and Shelby McEwen or WNBA standouts Allisha Gray and Kayla Thornton, there seems to be something for everyone in this year’s iteration of competition. As far as preludes go, this year’s Celebrity Game should offer a strong platform for the rest of this weekend’s events to build upon. It’s done so in the past, including in 2024, when Cowboys star Micah Parsons took home MVP honors after tallying 37 points and 16 rebounds en route to a dominant Team Shannon win.
Which players will shine this time around? Only time will tell. Regardless, one thing is certain: viewers can expect chaos, hijinks and plenty of missed shots during the contest. It wouldn’t be a Celebrity All-Star Game without them.
The Sporting News is tracking live updates from Friday’s Celebrity All-Star Game. Follow below for highlights, analysis and more as Team Bonds takes on Team Rice in a battle for Bay Area bragging rights.

8:54 p.m.: Team Rice is going to lose this game. But McEwen recorded his fair share of highlights, including this windmill that would look impressive in an NBA game.

8:52 p.m.: Druski rattles home a triple! He’s got four points, the same as Cenat. Who will win in the war of streamers?
8:50 p.m.: Team Bonds is beating the brakes off Team Rice. Flynn tallied another impressive basket, while Jackson dropped a triple —which counted for six points as a result of crunch time.
8:43 p.m.: Flynn has been dominant thus far. He’s added another impressive basket to his collection, slaloming to the rim before finishing through contact. His game has been replete with no-look passes and slick trots to the rack.
8:37 p.m.: Flynn looks to be tidying up his MVP candidacy. Just splashed a four-pointer, taking advantage of the power play to let it fly. He’s up to 15 points on the day. It’s been an ethical 15, too.

8:36 p.m.: Players are streaming in and out of the penalty box. McEwen, Cenat, Shaboozey and Davis all landed in the chamber of reflection.
8:33 p.m.: Cenat records his first basket of the game, dropping a layup. Because Bonds activated crunch-time, Cenat’s bucket counts for twice as much — four instead of two.

8:31 p.m.: The latest alteration to the Celebrity All-Star Game rule book: a penalty box. Fouls will bring about a stint in the sin bin.
8:28 p.m.: And Davis opens his scoring account with a four-pointer! Just what Team Rice needed as it attempts to whittle down Team Bonds’ advantage.
8:26 p.m.: McEwen takes flight! Raced beyond his adversaries to throw down the two-hand hammer!

8:24 p.m.: We’re back in action in the second half. Team Bonds will look to bolster its lead in the coming few minutes.
8:06 p.m.: Team Bonds leads at the end of the second frame. The reason why? Flynn, who looks all but assured to capture MVP honors if his side hangs on. For Team Rice, AP Dhillon has impressed, nabbing eight points.
8:04 p.m.: Flynn is putting forth an impressive performance thus far. Notched yet another post fadeaway, his third of the game. And he added an impressive no-look assist to Tucker Halpern, his third of the game. His current line: 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Not too shabby.
8:00 p.m.: Flynn looks a real candidate for MVP honors through the first two quarters. Has dropped seven points in the past few minutes. And unlike the vast majority of non-professional players, he looks fluid while doing so.
7:56 p.m.: Team Rice got off to a strong start in the quarter, with Rice looking to his bench unit for added value. However, Team Bonds stormed back with reckless abandon, taking advantage of Rice’s decision to activate crunch time — thereby making all baskets worth double. We’re level at 16 as the second quarter nears its halfway point.
7:50 p.m.: Rice is hoping for more movement from his side. Sounds like he wants to employ a Showtime Lakers-type of approach to tonight’s game plan. Expect more motion going forward.
7:40 p.m.: Terrell Owens starting to find his rhythm. Famed basketball trainer Chris Brickley has found the Hall of Fame wideout on two straight possessions. Both have ended with a finger roll from the 51-year old, who is seeking his third All-Star Celebrity Game MVP.
7:37 p.m.: Blocked by Thornton! Or was it? The Valkyries guard swatted Cenat’s flimsy layup attempt on the fast break. But upon further examination, she looked to have gotten a chunk of his arm, too.
7:33 p.m.: Our first challenge of the quarter sees Team Bonds add a new defender — Nuggets mascot Rocky. He’ll lead the Team Bonds’ defensive corps for the final four minutes of the first quarter. He can’t participate in any offensive sets. But his presence on defense will make it 6-5 on the other end of the floor.

7:30 p.m.: Scoring has ramped up over the past few minutes, with Kayla Thornton, Rickea Jackson, Rome Flynn and Tucker Halpern all getting involved. Through five minutes and some change, Team Bonds holds a slim lead, 8-4.
7:20 p.m.: The ball is tipped off and away we go! Team Bonds vs. Team Rice is off the mark!
7:12 p.m.: There are a handful of new additions to each roster, with Sparks standout Rickea Jackson and famed Bay Area-based rapper P-Lo joining Barry Bonds and Jerry Rice’s sides.
7:05 p.m.: Player introductions are a go. We’re a few minutes tip-off.
6:45 p.m.: It’s anyone’s guess who will capture MVP honors during tonight’s matchup. Even the participants aren’t so sure:

6:30 p.m.: Not the finest outing for Druski thus far. Looks like he’s missed his fair share of jumpers in warmups.

6:25 p.m.: Shaboozey and DDG faced off in a game of one-on-one on Thursday night. The match went in DDG’s way, with the YouTuber/rapper dropping a slew of impressive finishes over his opponent’s head. Shaboozey will be hoping for a better showing this time around on Friday.

6:10 p.m.: More Druski ahead of tonight’s duel. He’s looking more like a boxer than a ballplayer here. Perhaps it’s a sign of the kind of physicality he hopes to impose on the opposition during tonight’s match.

5:30 p.m.: Expect to see plenty of fireworks during Friday night’s matchup. Shaboozey likened himself to Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler, LeBron James and Stephen Curry — ostensibly the greatest player of all time — while Shelby McEwen views himself as more of a Russell Westbrook/Ja Morant hybrid. Meanwhile, Noah Kahan sees himself as somewhere between Sasha Vujacic and Shaun Livingston. That’s the duality of man, I suppose.
