Mulberry fans get ready. The archive of the luxury fashion and accessory brand’s founder, Roger Saul, is set to go under the hammer next month.
UK auctioneer Dreweatts is preparing Saul’s personal Mulberry items collected over 50 years. As well as core travel pieces the sale will include handbags, fashion, shoes, luggage and accessories, as well as home interiors — from fabric to furniture, china to glass, lighting to rugs.
Never-before-seen pieces will sit alongside some of Mulberry’s best known travel bags, with the auction offering a “once in a lifetime chance to obtain them”. The archive will include early and never-before seen design samples, personal memorabilia, as well as classics across all the Mulberry ranges.
It noted that Diana, Princess of Wales was a big fan of Mulberry and the sale includes two items from Mulberry’s collections similar to those she purchased and wore — a waxed cotton leather drover coat and a pleated silk floral skirt.
Luggage examples include a clipper bag in the signature check design (lot 11, estimate £160-£220) and a scotch grain carry on bag with tan saddle leather trim (lot 97, estimate of £150-£250. Among the more luxurious travel items in the sale is a is a one-off scotch grain and tan saddle leather trunk (lot 93, estimate £2,000-£3,000).
The sale takes place at Dreweatts in Newbury, Berkshire, on 7 August as a celebration of Saul’s “32 years in devising, building and evolving the Mulberry label and will offer an insight in to the building of one of the most popular brand names in the UK and beyond”.
