Miu Miu is clearly no stranger to a viral fashion moment. From its teeny weeny mini skirts to its overly stuffed handbags, Miuccia Prada knows how to cause a sensation with her designs. However, while many of the season’s most intensely coveted pieces are, honestly, low scorers when it comes to everyday wearability, Miu Miu’s latest hit is pleasingly practical.
Last year, when the house collaborated with New Balance for a second time, the collection was, unsurprisingly, gone at pre-sale. And, hype for the collection has not died down, with the trainers now topping Lyst’s quarterly round-up, making it the hottest product in the world.
According to the fashion search engine – which analysed the data of over 200 million shoppers – the Miu Miu x New Balance trainer was the most popular item of the first three months of this year, beating out Balenciaga’s Rodeo bag and Alaïa’s bejewelled flats.
“The collaboration became an instant must-have, selling out within hours online,” Lyst explained, adding that Miu Miu is now the hottest brand in the world. Searches were up 8 per cent this quarter and are up 57 per cent year-on-year for the fashion house, with three Miu Miu pieces in the top 10 hottest products — a first for any Lyst Index brand. This included the polo shirt and the orange knickers from the most recent collection.
Although the trainers of course sold out instantly, they do become available from time to time on resale sites, so we suggest that you set an alert for your size, and cross your fingers that Miu Miu and New Balance will team up for another collaboration soon.
