Welsh tennis prospect Mimi Xu and fellow Briton Mika Stojsavljevic were beaten by American pair Tyra Caterina Grant and Iva Jovic in Sunday’s Wimbledon girls’ doubles final.
Swansea-born Xu, 16, and 15-year-old Stojsavljevic, from London, lost the first set 7-5 but battled back to win the second 6-4.
But it was second seeds Grant and Jovic who emerged victorious, winning the deciding set 10-8.
Xu and Stojsavljevic had reached a first junior Grand Slam final having beaten Julie Pastikova and Julia Stusek 6-4 6-1 in their semi-final.
Xu, who is number nine in the International Tennis Federation rankings, said last month she was “incredibly proud and humbled” to have broken into the top 10.
She reached the quarter-finals of the girls’ doubles at this year’s French Open with fellow Brit Hannah Klugman.
Xu also made the singles quarter-finals and the doubles semi-finals at the Australian Open in Melbourne in January.
