The new venue will create over 100 full and part time jobs
A new 24-hour McDonald’s drive-thru is being built just outside of Liverpool. The fast food giant is opening a new venue in Winsford, Cheshire and in doing so is creating up to 120 jobs.
The new site will be built on vacant land at Road Six on Winsford Gateway, part of Winsford Industrial Estate, just shy of an hours drive from the city centre. The site was given the go ahead by Cheshire West and Chester Council’s planning department, despite reservations from Winsford Town Council, as reported by Cheshire Live.
The town council said the basis of its objection was over health concerns. A report by a Cheshire West planning officer said: the town council’s concerns regarding health impact are “noted and considered”. It added: “The site is over two miles from any local schools and this location is not considered to be a place where children or young people would congregate.”
A planning statement submitted said the new venue would create 120 full and part time jobs, and 375 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase. The premises is to be complete with 36 parking spaces and eight cycle spaces.
The supporting statement said: “McDonald’s has an existing drive-thru restaurant around 2km south west of the site at Wharton Retail Park. McDonald’s has identified a commercial opportunity to provide a second drive-thru restaurant to serve the local population, relieving pressure on the existing Winsford restaurant thereby improving customer experience.”
The report said an existing access point on Road Six will be used to enter and exit the site, adding that pedestrians can use existing footpaths to access the site
It added that pedestrian links and zebra crossing facilities would give priority to pedestrians within the car park and across the drive-thru lane. An additional nearby zebra crossing facility is also proposed.
In addition to local residents and businesses, the statement said it was envisaged the drive-thru would attract custom from passing motorists. The report finished by adding: “Overall, the proposals represent a sustainable, high-quality development that will facilitate the delivery of economic investment and enhance the offer of Winsford Gateway and Winsford Industrial Estate for employees and visitors alike.”
